Why use a Senior Move Manager?
Moving later in life is very difficult for both the senior, and the family. Moving from a home you’ve spent decades in with all of the memories attached is a daunting task. Health conditions and emotional strain may be working against you. We are understanding and are respectful of these issues. We are certified and experienced, and we know that special care is needed. There is much more to downsizing and moving than packing up a box and moving. We hear you, and we are here for you.
Are you going to make me get rid of my stuff?
No. What you decide to keep is ultimately up to you. If you are moving, we will consult with you on the appropriate amount of belongings to bring with you. If you are downsizing, we will remind you of your goals. From then on, we will discuss what your options are.
What happens to the stuff I’m not taking with me?
We make sure your things are not randomly disposed. We can pass memories to your children, donate, or sell items. We arrange and oversee pickup of donations and guarantee they benefit the less fortunate. We also help you sell items through various resources.
Do I need to be present on move day?
No, but you are welcome to be. At that point we will have completed the floor plan so you know how it will be arranged and what you will have taken with you. During this time we strongly encourage you to put your mind to ease and enjoy free time while we get your place set up.
Will a lot of my stuff end up in the dumpster?
No. We are adamant on repurposing and recycling. Very little of what we deal with ends up in the trash. If the item is in great condition, we have a plethora of options for repurposing. We recycle everything from paper to aluminum, plastic and iron. “One man’s trash is another’s treasure”. We have resources to find people who will value your departing item.
How long does it take to downsize?
It all depends on your situation and what you would like to accomplish. We work at a pace that suits you. Usually we work on this for about two to three hours at a time. There are many decisions to be made and I will be asking numerous questions.
How much will this cost?
Charges are based on an hourly fee plus expenses. After the initial consultation and you decide the services for you, I’ll provide you with an approximate estimate. It is approximate because there are many variables that play into downsizing and moving.
How far do you travel?
I serve the FM and surrounding area. I will collaborate with senior move managers in other regions if you are outside of the Fargo-Moorhead area. If there is not, I am more than happy to travel to be of assistance.
