Don’t Spend Thanksgiving (or the holidays) Alone
Spending the holidays alone is a somber experience, especially if you are living in big open house. Chances are, in the past, that house was once full and lively around the holiday season. It’s difficult to reflect on those joyful memories and realize that things have changed. Children grow up and sometimes move away. Family members, friends and spouses may no longer be around. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, these memories tend to get stirred up. Change is a beautiful part of life, and with age there many ways to adapt and embrace changes rather than just coping. This can be done by keeping in touch with loved-ones, being an active member of your community, and building new relationships.
There has never been a better time than the present for communication technology. The world has never been so connected. Computers, mobile phones, and tablets provide opportunity to reach out to friends and family who are long-distance. It is important to take full advantage of the ever-increasing communication mediums. Friends and family are literally just a click or call away. Even Facebook has a video chat option now. You can visit each member of your family without leaving your home. In addition, technology also allows you to keep up with current events and happenings in your area.
Community involvement is a great way to thrive around the holiday season. Whether it is volunteering, supporting your local church or charities- there are plenty of ways add value to your neighborhood, town or city. Active seniors are happy and healthy seniors. Embrace the present!
